No Doubt Pull Out Looking Hot Video for Being Offensive
No Doubt didn’t have the best start after their reunion: the band launched their latest single, Looking Hot, recently, but it only remained on YouTube and Vevo for 1 day before being removed because people considered it too offensive.
Apparently, when No Doubt filmed “Looking Hot” and decided to go for a “cowboys and Indians” approach, they never imagined that the natives will get so offended. However, they did and they became very vocal about this, forcing No Doubt to pull the video from the market.
In case you didn’t have the chance to watch Looking Hot, the clip shows Gwen Stefani dressed up like a Native American, is imprisoned by two cowboys and rescued by another Indian (all of them bandmates). And somehow this was considered offensive… because that is what we do in the 21st century, we suffer of offendedness…
Of course the horse is white, because they’re racist!
Either way, No Doubt didn’t want to start a scandal so they pulled out the clip for Looking Hot and also issued an apology:
“As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures. Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their history. Although we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California, we realize now that we have offended people. This is of great concern to us and we are removing the video immediately. The music that inspired us when we started the band, and the community of friends, family, and fans that surrounds us was built upon respect, unity and inclusiveness. We sincerely apologize to the Native American community and anyone else offended by this video. Being hurtful to anyone is simply not who we are.”
What is your opinion, though? Were people too fast on deciding that Looking Hot was offensive? Did you consider the clip offensive?
